What should never go in a garbage disposal?
Grease above all — it cools and hardens in the drain line and causes far more damage than the disposal itself ever will. Also avoid bones, fibrous vegetables like celery and artichoke, coffee grounds, eggshells, pasta and rice, and anything that isn't food.
My disposal hums but won't turn. Can I fix it?
